Tigers
Smash 1986 |
|
|
Courtesy of Wattie Dunlop |
|
A great photograph, a still
moment caught in time amongst the manic behaviour of speedway
bikes out of the riders control. I know this was 1986 and
the picture appeared in the Glasgow programme. Well done the
tigers photographer and can anyone say who the riders were? |
|
Jim Henry says: I was looking at your Shawfield section on the
A-Z. The photo under the heading Tiger Smash. The rider on the
LHS is a Mildenhall Rider but who he and the Tiger are I don't
know. I don't think the photo was taken at Shawfield as there
appears to be countryside in the background and all the
Shawfield track was in an enclosed stadium.

Mystery
Was it 1996
Or 1998 |
|
|
Courtesy of Paul Burton |
|
Paul
Burton says: These 2 photos were taken at Fir Park, Motherwell, on 14th
March 1998 |
John says: Fir Park is Motherwell FC's
ground, my records show that the secretary of the football club
was Alan Dick who is a speedway fan. He put on a
demonstration of speedway for the football fans in
1996. Mick Powell and Scot
Lamb took their bikes along to the footie ground in 1996 according
to my records not 1998, so can anyone name the 2 riders in the
pictures (are we looking at Mick and Scot in 1996) and can anyone
throw any light on the year, was it 96 or 98? |
Steve Baker says:
This pic cannot be from 1996 as the Tigers did not ride that year.
It's definitely 1998 and its Mick Powell on the left and though I
cannot name the other rider it is not Scott Lamb. Not sure about
the location either as there is a third rider in the background so
maybe its a pre meeting parade somewhere. Interesting conundrum! |
John says: If you were there can you confirm what took place at
Fir Park, the year and the riders
John |
Steve Baker says: Hi John mate, I agree with what you say about the
speedway demo at Fir Park in 96 but these photo's were
definitely not taken on that occasion. Firstly Mick and Scott
rode for the Scottish Monarchs that year so would not be
wearing a Glasgow race jacket. |
Secondly the race jackets they are wearing are most certainly
the 1998 version, the year they were sponsored by QFM radio.
Therefore I think Paul is right when he says they were taken
in March 98, where I do not know, maybe it was a demonstration
somewhere else we don't know about. Personally, as I said
before, I think its just a pre meeting parade as you can see
the Tigers number 3 in the background of pic 2. Oh, by the way
the rider in pic 2 is Dalle Andersson.
Let's see if
anyone else has an opinion on this little brain teaser!
|
Tony McColl says: Don't know
if you ever found out, but the rider wearing purple is Stewart
McDonald. |
